Description :

*1. Assists the Athletic Trainer in providing for an effective and efficient program of first aid, emergency care, injury prevention and preconditioning for athletes in collegiate sports activities.

*2. Recognizes and evaluates injuries to determine appropriate medical care using proper emergency care procedures and equipment.

*3. Provides athletic training coverage at sporting events (home and away) as assigned.

*4. Assists in the organization and processing of pre-participation health screenings, physical examinations and doctor referrals.

*5. Identifies and protects pre-existing physical conditions that may predispose the athlete to injury and assists in the development and implementation of educational programs for the prevention of injuries to student athletes. *6. Designs, fabricates, fits and applies appropriate taping, wrapping and protective devices to prevent athletic injury.

*7. Monitors environmental conditions such as inside and outside temperatures and the potential for lightening during sports activities and/or practices, and provides recommendations relative to athletic performance and safety.

*8. Advises athletic staff and teams on potentially hazardous situations to ensure safe participation.

*9. Develops therapeutic and exercise criteria for the return of the injured athlete to full functional participation.

*10. Evaluates the use of rehabilitation equipment, manual techniques and therapeutic modalities to determine their appropriate use and application.

*11. Maintains all student athlete health records and documents all athletic training treatments and services provided by health care professionals.

*12. Inspects equipment and facilities to ensure student athlete safety and reports all findings to necessary personnel.

*13. Acts as liaison between coaches and athletes in injury matters.

*14. Advises coaches and student athletes regarding diet, exercise, hydration and other matters related to injuries.

*15. Advises coaches and student athletes concerning the development of physical conditioning and training programs to enhance the strength, endurance, flexibility and coordination of athletes.

*16. Reviews previous injuries and works with athletes to assess personal status for safe participation.

*17. Operates a computer to perform basic data entry, access email and District announcements, etc.

18. Advises coaches during pre-season, in season and off-season of strength conditioning and flexibility sessions.

19. Assists in the monitoring of sports activities to prevent the use of dangerous skills and techniques.

20. Provides guidance to students within the Athletic Training Student Internship program.

21. May serve on a variety of District committees as requested.

Requirements :

● EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

● Bachelor’s Degree in athletic training, physical education, health, kinesiology or a related field; AND

● One (1) year of directly related experience; AND

● Graduation from high school, G.E.D. or the equivalent*. * High School education equivalency equals an adult education diploma or four (4) years of full-time, paid work experience

● CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

● National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) Certification. Employee must fulfill the continuing educational requirements to maintain NATA Certification throughout duration of employment with the District.

● Valid First Aid and CPR certificates.
